Description
Azulejo, Geometric Pattern - 17 by Andrea Mazzocchetti
The magic of Spanish and Portuguese azulejos is now available to decorate your homes on modern art prints, canvas prints or, why not, metal prints. The azulejos are the typical ornaments of Portuguese and Spanish architecture and consist of a richly decorated ceramic tile, not very thick, and with an enamelled surface. From the 13th century, in the Spanish east, particularly in Valencia, as well as in the south, in Seville and Granada, the potters, under Muslim influence, produced glazed and colored smooth clay slabs, cut with pincers (alicates). This explains the term alicatado, from the style of the compositions, generally for floors but also, sometimes, for wall surfaces.
