Lupinus texensis, the Texas lupine, is a species of the genus Lupinus native to North America and widely distributed throughout the United States. Texenxis is an annual herb between 15-45 cm. Its branched stems carry light green palmate leaves, usually with five leaflets (similar to an open hand). It blooms in spring (March to May).
This plant attracts several species of butterflies and moths and it feeds its larvae. It is also attractive to bees, which pollinate it, along with six other species of the same genus is the state flower of Texas.
It is native to southern North America, distributed throughout the states of Florida, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas, to San Luis PotosÃ, in Mexico.
Its natural habitat are meadows and roadsides.
