Description
House of Pilate - Details by Andrea Mazzocchetti
A detail of the wonderful palace of "Casa de Pilatos" (house of Pilates) from the city of Seville, Spain.
It is an Italian Renaissance and mudejar-style mansion and Mudejar, a combination unique in its kind. It is also considered the prototype of the Andalusian palace. The construction of this wonder began in the fifteenth century by Pedro Enriquez and was finished by his son Fadrique Enriquez de Ribera. It is to him that was responsible for the name "Casa de Pilatos" (House of Pilate). His pilgrimage to Jerusalem in 1519 is the origin of the current name of the house. According to tradition and popular belief, after his return he discovered that the distance between the ruins of the home of Pontius Pilate and Golgotha (site where Jesus was crucified) was the same as that between his palace and a temple located outside the walls known as the Cruz del Campo (Cross of Field).
Surprised by the coincidence, he established the Via Crucis (Stations of the Cross) of the Cruz del Campo in 1520.
