Knights of Steel, Templars at war - 02

The Templar Crusaders, formally known as the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon, were a Catholic military order founded in 1119. Established to protect Christian pilgrims traveling to the Holy Land, the Templars became one of the most skilled and feared fighting forces of the medieval Crusades. Recognizable by their distinctive white mantles adorned with a red cross, they were both warriors and monks, bound by vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. Their headquarters were initially located on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, which inspired their name.

Over time, the Templars grew in power, acquiring vast wealth, land, and influence across Europe. They played a key role in the defense of Christian territories in the Holy Land and in military operations during the Crusades. However, after the loss of Jerusalem and political shifts in Europe, the order fell out of favor. In 1307, they were arrested by King Philip IV of France and later disbanded by Pope Clement V in 1312 under accusations of heresy and corruption. Their legacy, however, lives on in myth and legend.
