Description
Portland Head Light - 05 by Andrea Mazzocchetti
Many are the symbols of the spectacular New England coast, but one in particular, especially along the Maine cliff, stands out above all. We are talking about the evocative and now famous lighthouses of the State (Lighthouses), which often, thanks to their panoramic positions along the sea, offer some of the most fascinating views of the American East Coast. So here we are today to offer you a route along the coast to discover the lighthouses of Maine and New England.
A very charming lighthouse, it is known as Portland Head Lighthouse but to visit it you have to move just outside the city (about twenty minutes from the center), in the Cape Elizabeth area.
Enter Fort Williams Park but do not park at the first parking lot on the left (it is for those who want to visit the small military fortification in the neighborhood, if you want you can take a leap but there is not much left!), Continue to the right, there you will find the beautiful lighthouse. It is the oldest of the state, it was wanted by George Washington back in 1791, and boasts a very distinctive Victorian style caretaker house, which now houses a museum.
