Description
The Last Legionary's Watch, 02
The golden light of the late afternoon bathed the battlefield, casting long shadows over the dust-choked plain. Marcus Decimus, a veteran of countless campaigns, stood at its edge, his armor glinting in the sun. The wind carried the scent of sweat, iron, and impending war, ruffling the crimson crest of his galea. His shield bore the scars of past battles, yet his grip remained firm.
Behind him, banners rippled, their insignias marking the legions poised for combat. The clamor of marching feet and the distant blast of a war horn filled the air, but Marcus was still. He breathed in deeply, his mind flashing through memories of past glories and the comrades he had lost.
The enemy loomed beyond the dust, a faceless mass waiting to clash with Rome’s might. He tightened the strap across his chest, feeling the weight of duty press upon him. He was not just a soldier; he was the wall against the tide, the sword of the empire.
As the sun dipped lower, turning the sky into a canvas of fire and gold, Marcus took his first step forward. The legion followed.
War was at hand.
