Description
Washington, Mt Rainier National Park - 06 by Andrea Mazzocchetti
The Mount Rainier National Park is a national park in Washington State, in the United States of America. The park takes its name from Mount Rainier, a stratovolcano belonging to the Chain of Waterfalls.
Established in 1899, it has an extension of about 950 km2. The park area, covered by a tenth of glaciers, includes Mount Rainier, an inactive volcano with seismic and hydrothermal activity, which represents the highest peak of the Cascate Chain. The different rivers that descend from the sides of the mountain have carved deep canyons.
The Mount Rainer is the highest peak in the Cascade Range, the park inside contains 26 glaciers among the largest in the United States and more than 300 lakes, as well as forests, sub-alpine meadows and waterfalls.
It is the ideal half for hikers, mountaineers, skiers and mountain bikers depending on the season.
